Board of Directors Meeting

The Board of Directors of the Western New York chapter of the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association met for breakfast on Wednesday, March 24 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. In attendance: Nelson Blish, President; Dick Kievit, Treasurer; Denzil Thies, Secretary. The Treasurer reported a balance of $1131 on account. Items of discussion included the impending annual spring meeting to recognize midshipmen candidates and the upcoming chapter election of officers.
The annual Naval Academy luncheon to recognize midshipman candidates will be held on May 21st at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Rear Admiral John Padgett, former Commandant of the U.S. Naval Academy, will be the guest speaker. His most recent duty assignment prior to retiring was Commander Submarine Forces Pacific. He is currently Vice President of the Electric Boat Division, General Dynamics. Additional details and the price of the luncheon will be provided later.
Elections of chapter officers will be conducted at the May 21st meeting. Chapter members are strongly urged to get involved and bring new blood to the Board of Directors. 2004 chapter dues of $20.00 are due. Please make your checks out to US Naval Academy Alumni Association and send to: Dick Kievit, 17 Founders Green, Pittsford, NY 14534. As a separate item, Dick would like input as what the chapter could be doing with discretionary monies from our treasury. We are not trying to build a warchest. One idea was to give a memento to our candidates who are accepted and decide to attend the Naval Academy. Memento ideas discussed included an engraved watch or a nice bookmark. Please provide Dick with additional ideas that you might have so we could discuss at one of our future meetings.
The next meeting of the Board of Directors will be 0700 Thursday, June 17th, at the Crowne Plaza. Future meetings of the Board of Directors will be the third Thursday of the third month of each quarter.
